Always, CMYK printers are driven by a RIP.
To have a custom profile made you must print five target images with the printer, ink, and paper you wish to have the profile made for. It is very important that the target images are printed with absolutely NO color management and with the highest quality settings. You must consult your RIP software to find out how to TURN OFF color management in order to print these targets without color management.
You must also print these targets with the same settings (such as ink limits, speed, passes, dot size, quality, etc) that you intend to print your final artworks with using the ICC Profile. The ICC profile is of the raw ink output using these settings on a specific media.

Do not change the size of these letter sized image files. Do not convert their color space.

Put a slip sheet between each printed target (plain copy paper works well) and put the five printed targets in a cardboard sandwich to protect them from getting bent in shipping. Tape the corners of the cardboard to hold the prints inside nice and flat, so they don't slide around and scuff the printed surface.
