This kit is for users with SureColor P800 printers that are compatible with the "Chipless Solution" firmware upgrade. Neither chips, nor a Decoder Board are required  if the P800 can be upgraded to "Chipless Solution". Please read here.

The refillable cartridges are made of sturdy and clear high-quality polypropylene plastic. They insert into your EPSON P800 printer easily. The inks are color matching to Epson when used with Epson recommended color workflow. This is the only 3rd party micro-encapsulated pigment ink set. Head performance is outstanding. However, our matte black is at a level above the OEM. ConeColor Pro Ultra HD™ matte black ink is the darkest pure carbon black on the planet!

This cartridge is a perfect marriage of the best designed cartridge with the best designed microchip. Final assembly is produced at Vermont PhotoInkjet. The cart is pressure tested and passes several QC tests before being sold. This is not your average China made cartridge!

The ink is filled with an included syringe, air is purged from the outlet port using the priming tip, and the cartridge is inserted into the printer just like the OEM. However, instead of throwing it away when the ink is used, the cartridge chip is reset by pushing a button on the decoder board.

Finally, a stable solution for North American and EU Region SureColor P-800 printers!

The Problem:

Epson SureColor P800 printers that are sold in the North American and EU regions lock out customers from choosing their Brand of consumables by recognizing when non-Epson branded cartridges are installed. When non-Epson branded cartridges are installed the printer will fail to operate and may become damaged. To be fair to Epson, they have clearly indicated in their marketing that the P800 printer model is designed to "only operate with Epson brand cartridges". But, most Epson customers do not buy directly from Epson and the Epson retailers are not mentioning this requirement, even as Epson mentions it on their own website and brochures. China region versions of the same printer are not affected.

The Solution:

The scheme that prevents using non-Epson branded cartridges is practically impossible to circumvent without literally getting around the circuit that prevents the use of non-Epson cartridges.

"Getting around the circuit" means that you will literally need to install an external circuit board that circumvents the Epson printer chip reading process. It replaces the printer's functions with its own functions that are resident on the external circuit board. This type of circuit board is called a "decoder board". The decoder board can be used in combination with InkjetMall versions of the Epson 3800 and 3880 refillable cartridges from 2011 and later.

Or you can upgrade your printer's firmware so that it simply stops reading the chips. This is called the "Chipless Solution". Please read here.

Decoder boards

When installed, a decoder board bypasses the Epson chip reading functions. All of the reading and writing to chips as well as the resetting becomes a phantom operation that takes place on the decoder board. How you reset a "chip" is by pressing a button on the decoder board.

This decoder board is not that difficult to install. It involves disconnecting the ribbon cables from the Epson printer's main board, and connecting in their place the ribbon cables from the decoder board. And once in place it’s not something you need to worry about again. It does what it is supposed to do. Initially, all of the cartridges will read 100% full. As any single cartridge empties and requires resetting, a button on the decoder board is depressed and all cartridges reset to 100% full. You'll need to pay attention to ink levels as a result of the resetting.

The reset button on the decoder board can only be used to reset cartridges 30 times for North American region printers. That is a lot of ink, but it is a limitation. European version printers can be reset unlimited times.

Also, installing the decoder board represents an alteration to your printer that will most likely void the warranty. It takes only 15 minutes to install and even less to de-install. Once it is removed and the Epson cables put back in place, the printer is restored to its normal functions.

We are pre-testing all of our decoder boards here so that we know that what we sell you works. But, we can not be responsible for your installation nor can we warranty the board itself nor any damage it might cause if you install it improperly.

We have been testing devices like this for more than a year. We've blown up a fair number of Epson printers on solutions which are not stable. We believe that the version of decoder board that we are selling is stable. Plus, our version allows use of our existing Epson 3800 and Epson 3880 refillable cartridges in P-800 printers. Our 3880 control chips were unique in allowing the use of fully depleted OEM chips. These same controller chipped carts can be used with the new decoder board and the OEM chips are not required.

Therefore, our decoder board offers a good upgrade path to our existing customers of 3800/3880 printers who want to save their inks and cartridges investment as they migrate to the new P800 printer.

At $395 this decoder board is not cheap. But, it can pay for itself within one or two fills of ink. More importantly, it will allow you to choose your own Brand of consumables and InkjetMall offers ink products that Epson does not.

About ConeColor Pro

ConeColor Pro inks are widely considered to be the best performing 3rd party inks on the market today. They are directly comparable to the OEM in both reliability and color. These inks have been sold and updated since 2007 and have a solid reputation built on satisfied user experience.

One of the most important benefits of ConeColor Pro ink is that it is made with a micro-encapsulated pigment particle. It is the only 3rd party ink that has achieved this milestone. Vermont PhotoInkjet joins Epson and HP at this standard of chemistry and formulation. Each ConeColor Pro pigment particle is encapsulated in a micro-thin coatings of acrylic co-polymer that insulates the static charge so that ConeColor pigments can not attract one another, can not clump together, and therefore can not clog your print heads. Encapsulation is quite different from "resin" formulas produced by other 3rd party ink companies. ConeColor is a premium pigment product developed upon the same pigment technology of our world famous Piezography B&W inks.

It is not necessary to flush out Epson inks before installing ConeColor inks. The two ink formulations are compatible with each other. Further, it is possible to change out one color position at a time. You will not need to waste any of the OEM inks in order to transition to ConeColor Pro.

Although most users can simply slip ConeColor Pro into their existing Epson media workflow using Epson ICC profiles, we also support this color ink system with the biggest 3rd party media ICC profile library ever!

Our latest update includes a new High Density Photo Black to match the glossiness and dMax of the new OEM SureColor HD-PK. The second new black we have introduced is the darkest matte black carbon ink offered by any company in the world. The new ConeColor Pro Ultra HD™ is significantly darker than Epson's newest HD Matte Black and has set a new level for dMax. It is backwards compatible. These two blacks are sold as options individually, or marked in sets. We are still selling our original Matte and Photo Blacks for those who are not seeking increased dMax (darkness) in their prints.

By using these two new optional blacks, you can get deeper photo blacks and increased shadow color gamut - and without having to upgrade your perfectly good equipment to the new SureColor printers (which have strong anti-3rd party chip technology in the North American versions of the P800, P6000, P7000, P8000 and P9000.

You can dramatically lower your ink costs and do your part in reducing dependency on toxic manufacturing materials and landfill use. ConeColor Pro inks are sold only for use in ReUsable cartridges which you can refill and reuse many times. There are several sources of estimates on the amount of printer cartridges being discarded into landfill each year. Some sources put that figure at more than 650 million printer cartridges around the world, with 450 million being discarded in the USA alone. The amount is increasing annually. The value of the printer cart market is estimated in the tens of billions of dollars. It is not difficult to estimate the impact on our environment when this amount of material which is purchased, is simply thrown away. The present inkjet consumables market is designed to encourage a tremendous amount of stuff heading out to landfill.

Being green is a universal concept. Every individual can have the choice of leaving a small footprint on this Earth if they are given the correct choice of products, or if they choose the correct products. The most powerful source is the customer, and when the customer begins questioning how their consumables are packaged, that question works its way up stream to effect powerful changes.
