Piezography2 HD Set 8 (HD matte & glossy) is a K6 ink set (shades 1-6) with both matte and photo blacks and Piezography GO. We call this matte and glossy K6 ink set, "Piezography 2". It is designed for use with eight ink slot printers. These are the 2880, 4800, 4880, 7800/9800, 7880/9880. These printers require a manual black ink change in order to switch from matte black to photo black. The concept behind Piezography2 is that no black ink changes are required. Instead, the selection of the Piezography media profile triggers whether matte black shade 1 or photo black shade 1 ink is used.
This set includes the new Ultra HD™ Matte Black that increases dMax to the highest in the entire industry. Epson MK and regular Piezography MK can reach no more than 1.64 on the highest quality media. Piezography Pro Ultra HD™ is a new generation of nano-carbon black ink that can reach 1.84 for nearly a full stop increase in dynamic range! New profiles for this ink set were produced in November, 2017. The dMax is remarkable!
How we do Piezography2 is by placing MK in the Black ink slot and place PK in the yellow ink slot. The Piezography media profile selects which black ink to print! There is very little discnerable difference between K7 and K7. So the lightest shade 7 (which normally is placed in the yellow position) is not really missed. In its place you will have the benefit of printing matte and glossy prints without having the delay and ink waste of a black ink change.
In addition to printing both matte and glossy Piezography prints, Piezography2 ink sets can also be used to make digital negatives with the PiezoDN Software system.
So, if you wish to print on matte paper - you simply select the matte P2 curves. If you wish to print on baryta or glossy paper, you select the glossy P2 curves. Baryta and glossy printing requires a second printing of GO using the GO curve. And if you wish to make digital negatives, this ink set can do it. Just refer to our PiezoDN manual.
There is very little visual difference between a K7 and a K6 print when using the Piezography curves. We have very carefully redesigned the K6 curves. If you wish to test this difference before upgrading, you can install the P2 curves and print a P2 matte print which will use shades 1-6 on an existing K7 printer. If it meets your standards (and we believe it will), you can upgrade by purchasing only the Photo Black and the GO. It is most convenient to use new cartridges for these than trying to rinse the old. The GO is very sensitive to stain. It is not advised to use GO without using a new cart.
This set can be used in printers with 11 ink channels in which only 8 ink channels are operable. In this case additional PiezoFlush should be purchased to keep non-operating print head channels from over-heating and affecting adjacent working channels. We offer a Piezography media profile re-mapping service to map out non-operating channels in printers. This allows you to use a printer with permanently clogged channels, or acquire a potentially free printer that is no longer useful to someone printing color.
Piezography Carbon has the distinction of being the most lightfast ink ever tested at the Aardenburg Image Archives. It is the only ink set that is outpacing all HP, Canon and Epson inks. Piezography Carbon is literally unaffected by long-term exposure to light. It should be. It's carbon. However, we consider it to be over-the-top in terms of fade-resistance. Because all Piezography ink sets are super fade-resistant, we beleive that you should choose this because you love warm prints!
Carbon K7 on JonCone Studio Type 2
Carbon's warmth can be cooled by printing on cooler white papers. JonCone Studio Type 2 is probably the best paper to print Carbon on for matte. But, you'll have to find your tone that you prefer by testing on different paper whites.
Carbon K7 on Epson Exhibition Fiber
Carbon inks are perfectly formulated (one shade at a time) so that the color tone *ab values are very close from shade to shade which results in a very linear, photographic warmth.It's a very precise way to express a Carbon photograph without the illusion used by color inks. It is very monochromatic (yet toned.)
Carbon K7on Canson Rag Photographique
Like all Piezography ink sets, this ink is metamerism-free and has an encapsulated pigment particle that is unique amongst all third-party inks and is considered as non-clogging as the OEM. When printing on matte papers, the Shade 1 Mstte Black is used. When printing on non-matte papers (including Baryta papers), the Shade 1 Photo Black is used in conjunction with Piezography Gloss Overprint.
Carbon K7on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag
This ink set is designed to be used with the Piezography media profiles and QuadTone RIP. Please see the Instructions tab for a full explanation of its use.You can expect to reach a dMax of 1.65 on matte papers such as JonCone Studio Type2 and Hahnemuhle Photo Rag. When glossy printing according to our directions you can reach dMax levels as high as 2.80. Piezography Glossy produces a finish in which you will not be able to tell where the inks end and the paper begins. When used as directed, it produces a uniform surface without any gloss differential nor bronzing.
This ink set can also produce the highest standard digital negatives with the optional PiezoDN software. Using multiple shades of black ink produces tens of thousands of more gray levels than when using color inks to produce digital negatives. You'll benefit by the same higher acuity, smoothness of tone, and shadow and highlight detail that Piezography inks give to printing. With PiezoDN software, you can expand the the dynamic range of your medium in the same way Piezography expands the dynmaic range of fine black & white printmaking.
You get a set of eight bottles of ink including Ultra HD™ matte black, HD photo black, the Gloss Overprint, and shades 2 through 6.
Piezography K7 and K6 inks are compatible with both matte and glossy (including baryta) papers.
- To use with matte papers, the Matte Black shade 1 must be used.
- For printing on glossy or baryta papers, the Photo Black shade 1 must be used.
- After printing on a glossy or baryta media, a second overprint of Piezography Gloss Overprint is requried according to our instructions in order to equalize all gloss differential, bring out shadow detail, and eliminate bronzing.
Piezography inks are intended for use with Piezography .iquad curves and the QuadTone RIP when used as instructed inthe NEW Piezography Manual which can be found in our Instructions tab.
There are many different configurations of ink available according to printer model and your intended use.
If you are buying an optional HD version of an ink set it may require the purchase of Piezography Professional Edition software in order to make your own custom curves. Where this is not mandatory with the Piezography Pro HD Photo Black, it is mandatory with the Piezography Pro Ultra HD Matte Black.
